About me
I joined the Tertiary Education Commission, Mauritius in 2003 where I am employed as the Acting Head Distance Education and Open Learning. Sponsored by a UK Commonwealth Scholarship, I earned a Masters in Education and International Development from the Institute of Education, University of London in 1998. My area of specialization is women, distance education and development. A recipient of the Junior Fulbright scholarship in 2002, I completed a second Masters in Adult Education, The Pennsylvania State University, USA. Most of this was done online through the World Campus, Penn State. My main portfolio is distance education -related policy making. I am currently on leave without pay and completing my doctorate with the University of South Australia. My thesis deals with Student persistence in Higher Education: issues for quality provision of learning support and related policy development in distance education contexts in Mauritius.
My interests
I am concerned about the quality of material that is considered as OER and from a policy making perspective would be interested in knowing how is quality assured. How do we make sure that OERs carry sound pedagogical inputs and that learning will be meaningful? How do we recommend the use of OERs at policy level?
I'm interested in:
- Understanding the quality of learning and teaching in online distance education; Extending applications of the Transactional Distance Theory to policy making; capacity building for policy makers and practitioners of distance education; distance education as part of the education for sustainable development strategy
