I would like to create a database of resources, lesson plans and teaching strategies for secondary social studies educators.

My Profile
Professional Background
I hold an undergraduate degree in Sociology and an M.A. in The Teaching of Social Studies (from Teachers College). I taught secondary social studies for several years--middle school in Boston and high school in New York. Since leaving classroom teaching in 2005, I have worked on a number of research projects involving documenting school reform efforts as well as technology integration in school contexts. The projects included Mouse.org where I collected data on the implementation of their program model in New York city schools and The Bach Center for Program Evaluation where I compiled an annotated bibliography of research methods for documenting one to one computing implementation. I have also worked on a number of projects to develop online content for educators and school coaches. These included the professional development section of the Teaching the Levees curriculum developed by the Social Studies program at Teachers College and internal resources for the Institute for Student Achievement project at NCREST. I am currently a student in the Computing in Education program.
Personal Background
I'm originally from Athens, Georgia and currently live with my sister and our two cats in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
My Interests
In my downtime I enjoy watching films, trying out recipes from around the world, wine tasting, and throwing small gatherings for friends.

Technology in education initiative that trains secondary students to be tech support in their schools. I made a number of visits to Mouse sites as part of a program documentation process in 2006.
My Diigo page with favorite links and articles about education. I'm particularly interested in technology in education, school reform initiatives and curriculum development.

Feedback & Notes from my WikiNeighbours
- Great to see you in the tutorial, Patrina, and to see your user page. Do you have any concerns about the quality of educational resources developed using an open authoring approach? If so, what are your concerns? If not, how does an open authoring approach contribute to high quality learning materials?--Phil Bartle 12:10, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
