My association with WikiEducator
I first found WikiEducator a while back when I was exploring the idea of open education resources for a school project, but I never got around to making an account. Recently, Randy Fisher and Wayne Mackintosh gave a short talk at the University of British Columbia (where I'm currently studying) about OER and offered to explore the feasibility of integrating a school project with the WikiEducator website.
Several students (including myself) based around Canada are exploring the potential behind tiny eco-friendly houses and are considering designing and potentially building a prototype over the next couple of years. I'm currently exploring the various tools available on WikiEducator with a subset of our current ideas and data to see if it will provide us with usable and helpful tools and resources. If you would like to follow the project and offer insight into how MediaWiki works, or comment on the project itself, we are based at the wikieducator page: MyHomeYourHome
Educators who have made a particular impact on me
Susan Picard
My grade 8 humanities teacher, she had a major impact on how I perceived and understood and worked within the gifted education program. She specifically helped me recognise the potential in alternate forms of communication by supporting exploration into a variety of activities and perspectives.
Holly Stogran
Grade 11 and 12 humanities teacher.
Steven Wolfman
For formally introducing me to Computer Science, HCI (Human-Computer Interface), university level educational considerations, and the bright side of large classes.
The GATE program
The Gifted and Talented Education program in Calgary which I was lucky enough to be a part of grades 7 through 12. I can't think of anything I value more highly than the education I received from this collection of teachers, friends and experiences.
