My Home
I live on southern Vancouver Island on the west coast of North America in the province of British Columbia, Canada.
My Livlihood
I work in Victoria, BC at Camosun College where I have been a faculty member since 1987. I am currently instructing computer studies and math online as a member of the Community Learning Partnerships Department which is part of the School of Access. Before that I was a secondary school instructor teaching English, French and Computer Studies.
My Vocational and Academic Passions
Over the course of my career I have been an active participant in and evaluator of the use of educational technology to help faculty, staff and students gain digital literacy skills. I seek to help make a positive difference in the communities where I am invited to be.
In 1995 arising out of a Master in Education thesis project, I began Learning Webs, a project to develop and deliver online instructional materials for Adult Basic Education students. These were delivered in an online electronic schoolhouse combined with face-to-face instruction, in partnership with local community learning centres. As of 2009 they included the Songhees Employment Learning Centre, Saanich Adult Education Centre, Victoria Native Friendship Centre, Bridges for Women and Literacy Victoria. As a member of the project leadership team of the South Island Learning Community (funded by the Canadian government's Office of Learning Technologies from 2005 - 2008), I helped introduce digital learning skills to these communities.
After over a decade creating online content, first in <HTML>, then WebCT, Moodle, Desire-2-Learn and MyMath Lab/MathXL; I have become a WikiEducator convert. I'm in the process of moving my Adult Basic Education (adult upgrading) curriculum to Adult Basic Education here at WikiEducator.
Personal Passions
These include my family, reading, restoration of older motor vehicles and sport aviation. I have started to build a Zenith CH-801 aircraft[1].

As part of the Learning4Content Project, I have been asked to demonstrate some Mediawiki skills.
Apprentice Level 1
To achieve this level I have demonstrate some basic WikiEducator skills such as
- registering for an account
- completing the Newbie Survey
- creating a WikiEducator user page.
Evidence for Workshop Learning Contract
I have demonstrated the following:
- use of bold
- use of italics
- headings and sub-headings (see above)
- lists (you are looking at one)
Explaining the Wiki Concept to a Friend

Apprentice Level 2
For this level I have to demonstrate some basic editing skills including
- External links using a "pipe". This is a funny phrase. I assume it means a link to another page that is hyperlinked from some text, rather than just the hyperlink itself. An example would be to my own web page Learning Webs
- Internal links using a "pipe". An example would be to the curriculum I'm putting online at Adult Basic Education.
- Creating new pages. See the internal link above.
- Uploading images. See the example at the top of this page as well as in the curriculum above.
The evidence requested for this level is either on this page or at Adult Basic Education.
