Who Am I
Hi friends!! I am Associate Professor in Zoology in Acharya Narendra Dev College, University of Delhi. I did my B.Sc.(1983) and M.Sc.(1985) from Hans Raj College,University of Delhi, completed Ph.D. from the Department of Zoology, University of Delhi (1990) and since then I have been in teaching profession. I started my teaching profession from Maitreyi College, University of Delhi and then taught in Shivaji College and Deen Dayal Upadhayay College and finally joined Acharya Narendra Dev College (ANDC) in 1994. I am the pioneer teacher to establish the Department of Zoology at ANDC.
Recently, I have been recognized by the University of Delhi as the independent supervisor to guide the Ph. D. students.
My College
I am working as Associate Professor in Acharya Narendra Dev College, a constituent college of University of Delhi, India. Established in 1991, our college is now one of the most renowned colleges in University of Delhi.
What Keeps Me Busy
Besides teaching, I am involved in and spent a lot of time in
1. Research Activities
2. Curriculum development, review and editing work at NCERT
3. Training of PGT teachers at SCERT
4. Writing books at the school levels (primary and secondary)
5. Developing e-learning content materials at college levels for ILLL.
6. Working as moderator in Vimarsh, an online community for Science fraternity of students and teachers where one can discuss all scientific facts and issues. The website is maintained by Centre for Science Education and Communication (CSEC), University of Delhi.
7. Finalizing the Theory and Practical books on Microbiology course, developed by IGNOU.
8. facilitating and Organizing workshops for college and school teachers and students.
Our college is organizing workshops on OER and educational courses regularly. First workshop WikiEducator-'Wikied-08' was conducted on 3,4 & 6th October, 2008, where I worked as one of the coordinators. Click here for the details and the list of members who attended this workshop and completed the course successfully. Thanks to our Principal Dr. Savithri_Singh who took this initiative. Another workshop on Biotechnology was organized by our college in collaboration with ILLL (21-24th October, 2008) for the University teachers, where our college teachers taught them new techniques of Biotechnology. I was one of the resource persons in that workshop.

Our college conducted two parallel workshops L4C31 and L4C32 on WikiEducator and EasyNow - 'Wikied-09' from 9 January, 2009 to 13 January 2009. This workshop was in collaboration with Commonwealth of Learning, Vancouver, Canada. It was convened by our Principal Dr. Savithri Singh and I worked as one of the facilitators. Our college joined hands with the scientific world and celebrated 200th birth anniversary of Charles Robert Darwin, an Evolutionary Biologist on 12th February, 2009 with great enthusiasm to recognize his contributions to the scientific community. It was first of this kind in the Delhi University.
Acharya Narendra Dev College organized two more parallel L4C workshops L4C42 and L4C43 on Open Educational Resources from 13th - 17th April, 2009 in South campus, University of Delhi. The aim of the workshops was to introduce the participants to WikiEducator and enable them to create and upload e-learning material on the web. The teachers from different colleges of University of Delhi participated in the workshop.
Thereafter, Our college held two more workshops on WikiEducator for college teachers in the college premises -L4C44 and L4C45 and one more -L4C46 was held in The Shri Ram School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi for school teachers.
A training workshop on WikiEducator was conducted from 29th June to 1st July, 2009 at CIET, NCERT for their faculty. The enthusiasm of the teachers was remarkable. For details, please click here.

5. Organized and acted as resource person in a workshop on ‘Biotechnology’ based on the Biology course of B.Sc. Life Sciences Part III for University teachers, organized by Acharya Narendra Dev College and Institute of Life Learning, University of Delhi on 21st October-24th October, 2008.
6. Acted as resource person in the practical training workshop on ‘Understanding Complexities of Life from Molecules to Systems: Concepts and Tools’ from 12th May-23rd May, 2008 held at Acharya Narendra Dev College.
7. Worked as coordinator of a 3-day workshop ‘WikiEd 08’ conducted at Acharya Narendra Dev College, 3,4 and 6th October, 2008.
8. Worked as one of the members of organizing committee of 2-days National Symposium on “Biotechnology: Expanding Horizons”, 22-23 Nov., 2003; Organized by Acharya Narendra Dev College, Univ. of Delhi at INSA Auditorium.
My Other Interests
I am a continuous learner and always love to learn new things in life. I believe that there is so much to learn that life is too short for that. I had done diploma in French from University of Delhi during my research days. Listening to music is my best pass time and it also makes me stress-free. Further, I love to do Sudoku, cross words, word games, etc. I feel that it sharpens my brain and makes my memory stronger. Now-a-days writing is my new passion. In last three years, I have authored ten books and contributed to many others.
Passion For Research
I have always been fascinated by colourful insects around me. I did my Ph.D. from Delhi University under the supervision of Pro
f. M.K.K. Pillai. The work was based on the development of deltamethrin resistance in three species of mosquitoes; An. stephensi, Cx. quinquefasciatus and Ae. aegypti; role of the synergist (PBO) on the reversion of the resistance and biochemical assays to identify the mechanism of resistance.
The following studies were performed:
i) Toxicological Studies:
Bioassays on the various species of field-collected mosquitoes, reared in the laboratory under continuous selection pressure of deltamethrin to assess the resistance levels to deltamethrin using susceptibility tests and dosage-mortality responses.
Synergistic studies to study the impact of synergists on the reversion of the development of resistance to insecticides.
ii) Biochemical Studies:
Quantitative study of various enzymes in single mosquito by ELISA, Electrophoresis and spectrophotometry. The study of mechanism of resistance to insecticides by estimating the difference in titers of these enzymes in susceptible and resistant mosquitoes.
My Thesis
Studies on the impact of the synergist, Piperonyl Butoxide on the development of deltamethrin resistance in Indian strains of Aedes aegypti L., Culex quinquefasciatus Say and Anopheles stephensi Liston.

- Arranged Self Defense classes for the students and the staff of the AND College (Conducted by Delhi Police and Crime against Women Cell) in order to ensure that the empowerment of women was not just left as a topic of discussion the society.
