The effect of stress on breathing
From WikiEducator
The stress response causes the breathing rate to increase, as well as a move to predominantly upper chest breathing. This is because upper chest breathing allows us to take in a lot of oxygen relatively quickly.
When the level of stress is sustained for a period, this over-breathing can becomes habitual, and a breathing pattern disorder can result.
