Natural Numbers

Natural numbers are also sometimes called counting numbers. Those are the numbers all cultures have. 1,2,3 and so on.
However, the zero is a recent innovation. There is no Roman Numeral zero, for example. That was invented by the Arabs (hence Arabic numerals) about 800 AD, though some say they got it from India. Add the zero to the counting numbers and you have whole numbers.
