Getting started. WikiEducators from Papua New Guinea

Hi Everyone and Welcome!

WikiEducator (WE) is becoming the largest Mediawiki skill training initiative in the world! So far, more 900 educators have participated in this historic initiative, funded by the Commonwealth of Learning and The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. We are looking forward to achieving our target of 2500 people trained by December 2008.

This is a 5-day workshop (45 minutes per day) - with a 45-minute pre-workshop activity. This self-directed workshop (with Facilitator support) is designed as an introduction to WikiEducator and MediaWiki skills. This workshop is designed to also provide an experience of the dynamic energy of peer collaboration in an open wiki format.

Our Recommendations

To experience the best that the wiki environment has to offer, we recommend you:

  • suspend your patterns of belief and judgment - about your performance
  • observe and reflect on what's happening on your wiki pages - and learn to use 'Recent Changes & the 'History' tab!!
  • be patient and gentle with yourself
  • recognize that our WE Community of Support is here to help you - if you're having difficulty, just ask!
  • realize that you are part of the WE Family

Get to Know Your Colleagues

A major part of the WikEducator experience is expanding your network of contacts and relationships. WE encourage you to get to know each other and explore areas of mutual interest and areas of potential collaboration.
