Community Media
From WikiEducator
Encouraging the development, use and sharing of Media for Learning
Community Media is any media, or combination of media, focused on and created by local communities, including radio, TV and newspapers, telecentres and new/online and online media. Community media often exist in areas often under-served by other communication and information media and are therefore vital services. Community media broadcast in local languages. "Community Radios" as they are called, are rooted in local contexts, drawing on local community membership for ownership, management, staffing, volunteers and organisational development, and as 'expert' resources on air. Community media, especially radio, are engaged with their listeners and the wider community, working in culturally-appropriate ways and are unique and important vehicles for learning.
