The University of Delhi has recently revised its undergraduate syllabus - introducing some exciting experiments in the practicals of the Biology Course of the B.Sc.Programme. We, at Acharya Narendra Dev College are adapting standard protocols for these experiments for our staff and students. We have uploaded the protocols on WE so that it can be accessable to a larger audience. Please do contact Principal if you have any comments or suggestions. We are open to improvement!!

Over time, on this page, we intend putting up protocols for all the Biology experiments.

Protocols for Practicals of B.SC Programme

Foundation B.Sc I yr

1. Isolation of Genomic DNA from E.coli.
2. Plasmid DNA Isolation from E.coli.
3. Quantification of DNA by spectrophotometer and estimation of absorption maxima.
4. Isolation of genomic DNA from plant tissue by spooling method
5. To separate DNA by Electrophoresis
6. To Quantify DNA using Agarose gel electrophoresis
7. To study mitochondria in striated muscle cells using vital stain Janus Green B.
8. To study animal cells by making temporary mounts.

B.SC II Yr

1. Seperation of single and double strand DNA
2. Isolation of mononuclear cells by Ficoll-Paque PLUS
3. To separate serum from blood
4. To conduct Ames test for screening substances for mutagenicity

B.SC III Yr

1. To perform Western blotting
2. To perform Southern blotting
3. To perform Southern blotting
4. Useful Bioinformatic sites on internet for gene and protein databases,genome and organism specific databases.
5. Homology search using 16srRNA sequence and performing multiple sequence alignment.
6. Conctruction of phylogenetic trees.
